In 2022 the ATM approved the name «La Rambla | Drassanes» for this station, but TMB still uses «Drassanes» in its information and its data; this guide uses the operator’s name.

The station opened on 13 December 1968 on what was then Line III, under the Spanish name Atarazanas, after the royal shipyards beside it. In 1982, with the reorganisation that brought in Arabic numerals for the lines, it became part of L3 and took the Catalan form, Drassanes.

In 2022 the name La Rambla | Drassanes was approved as more descriptive, since the station is at the lower end of La Rambla; it is the name approved by the ATM but not yet adopted by TMB. The station lies beneath the Portal de Santa Madrona, in Ciutat Vella, and was refurbished with lifts to make it accessible. It has three entrances, Drassanes, La Rambla and Santa Madrona, and on the line it sits between Paral·lel and Liceu.
