Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica station
Building the station took longer than planned, above all after an underground explosion in November 1973, during the construction of Barceloneta, destroyed much of the tunnelling between the two stations. It was called Zoo at the planning stage, but when it opened in October 1977 on what was then Line IV it was named Ribera, after the neighbourhood it stands in. In 1982, when Line IV became L4, it was renamed Ciutadella.
The Olympic Games gave it its present form. It closed on 29 July 1991 to be remodelled: the entrance was moved, the decoration was renewed and a concrete slab was laid on top, carrying sidings of the Estació de França. It reopened on 10 April 1992 as Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica, after the new Olympic district, and was officially inaugurated on 23 April, Sant Jordi’s Day. The tram arrived on 14 July 2004. On the line it sits between Barceloneta and BogatellES.
